DEFINITION
• the DEF for Abandonment (A) is : “Not getting enough of your legitimate childhood needs met, & some needs NOT at all”. This applies to all 4 categories of NEEDS: Mental,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Physical, Emotional, Spiritual. (A) is NOT just about someone physically leaving
• (A) did not have to be overt or deliberate. Our parents may have been oblivious to the damage they were doing, BUT the result is the same
• technically, you can not abandon another adult, only a child (there are some exceptions). So now when we FEEL abandoned, it’s left-over pain from the past
(PS. There are of course situations which will hurt any healthy adult, but not to the degree that ACoAs experience)
• being (A) continually as a kid in those 4 categories generates enormous amounts of terror, rage, hopelessness, loneliness, humiliation, sorrow...
• without an outlet for the intense,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], daily, unrelenting fear we lived thru during childhood,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the accumulated pain gets buried & crusted over with defense mechanisms
• we carry that mountain of terror with us into adulthood. If not brought to the surface & safely re-experienced (OH JOY), it runs our life - in ALL areas, no matter how functional a person may look on the outside
• we always turn the original (A) into Self-Hate, in a desperate attempt to be in control of a bad situation (see pg. 54)
-- When we can’t figure out what’s bothering us, we need to remember that : “ALL roads lead to .... abandonment”. No matter the current event - how real-life, practical or serious --- if we become devastated,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], self-hating, hysterical, paralyzed --- we can definitely say the situation is touching our old abandonment wound, which is VERY DEEP.
• the pain we feel at the moment can be from a present day event (a job loss, a breakup, being in a fire) - all of which are stressful. BUT ACoAs react even more intensely than others - who can be hurt, upset, have some sleepless nights... while the ACoA will be depressed for a long time,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], beat themselves up cruelly, become suicidal...
• this is from the accumulated suffering we went thru as kids, with NO comfort, outlet or hope of ending! To survive, the terror & rage got stuffed into a huge reservoir of the unconscious -- until some event in the present blows the lid off & we are literally FLOODED with painful emotions
• this will often be expressed by being out of control: panic attacks, suicidal thoughts or actions, rage attacks at others, self-mutilation, binges, fight & other self-destructive behaviors

ABANDONMENT PAIN IS FROM THE PAST
It hurts, but it passes
➼ At the heart of Self-Hate is a FALSE BELIEF: “It is OUR fault that we’re in pain AND if it’s our fault, then we can & MUST fix it/ change the person or situation, to make everything better”.
IN RECOVERY:
a. OVER-sensitive ACoAs need to:
• accept that the current intensity of our pain is mainly from childhood and IS valid - because of real past trauma
• vent enough of those painful emotions in safe places & with the appropriate people, so that we’re not continually drowning in them. This will take more time than we like, because we can only do it in small doses & only as the emotions surface (usually, but not always,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], when we’re psychologically ready to handle it)
• have our early experiences validated AND explained,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], so we can fully understand & accept not only what happened but that it was not our fault
• learn techniques for calming our anxiety, especially for those times when we’re alone - like soothing music, meditation, journal writing, exercise,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], self-administered bio-feedback & EFT, etc
• share these emotions with the right people, so we don’t have to carry it all alone (“You’re only as sick as your secrets”) !
b. UNDER-sensitives need to
• be given accurate information about the emotional consequences of being abused as a kid
• be willing to dig into those experiences & face the reality of our trauma
• have permission to feel our feelings, whatever they are (break a Toxic Rule)
• learn ways to get those old emotions to the surface - visualization, writing, meditation, drawing, 2-handed Inner Child writing, rousing or sad music, etc.
• keep talking about what happened. Read about it. Get lots of validation & healthy feedback
✶✶ THEY are telling you about their unwillingness to deal with their pain!
➼ YOU can do whatever it takes to recover! You don’t need anyone’s approval. YOUR healing & growth is all the PROOF you’ll ever need that this process works - because YOU’re the one who is gaining self-esteem & self-empowerment!

Whenever we have an intense emotional reaction to anything, in the present, we can be sure that:
-- ‘IF it’s hysterical, it’s historical’, meaning that the intensity is usually out of proportion to the present situation BUT is bringing up buried emotions from our childhood. The current event is in some way similar to our past experiences.

Aerobic capacity does decrease with age, but an excellent longitudinal study indicates that it declines more slowly in physically active subjects as compared with sedentary subjects. The subjects were middle aged men whose average age at the inception of the study was 45 years. They were involved in consistent physical training for the next 23 years,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and at the end of that time, they experienced only one third of the aerobic decline that was measured in a non exercising control group. In addition, their body weights decreased by an average of 8 pounds, and blood pressure did not increase with age,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which often occurs among sedentary people.
Aerobic capacity reaches a peak after 6 months to 2 years of steady endurance training. At this point, it levels off and remains unchanged for a number of years,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], even if training is intensified. However, aerobic performance continues to improve with harder training, because a higher percentage of the aerobic capacity can be maintained for a longer period. For example, 6 months of appropriate training may allow you to jog 3 miles at 60% of your aerobic capacity. Another year of harder training may allow you to run 3 miles at 85% of your capacity. Capacity has not changed during this time, but physiological adaptations have occurred that enable the body to function at progressively higher percentages of maximum capacity.

Aerobic capacity is limited by heredity and is finite. This represents a substantial influence regarding a given individual's potential for aerobic performance. If those who inherit the genetic potential for endurance events also train diligently, they become capable of exceptionally high levels of performance. However, diligent training with an average genetic potential results in average or slightly above average performance. Only a select few inherit the ability to produce world class endurance performances. The majority of people are in the average category, but all can achieve their aerobic potential with training.
Aerobic endurance training improves aerobic capacity by 5% to 25% in previously untrained,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], healthy adults. The magnitude of improvement is primarily dependent upon the initial level of physical fitness. The lower the fitness level,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the greater the gain from aerobic training.
The effects of training persist as long as training continues. Fitness developed through years of continuous training can be lost in months if training is interrupted or discontinued. Subjects who suspended training for 84 days after 10 years of active participation experienced a significant decline in aerobic capacity after 3 weeks of inactivity and returned to pretraining levels in most fitness parameters by the end of the study. The exceptions to complete reversal were muscle capillary density and mitochondrial enzymes, which remained 50% higher than levels measured in sedentary control subjects. This study indicated that the results of inactivity are variable and affect some systems more quickly than others. Physical decline cannot be prevented with physical inactivity.

The improvement in aerobic capacity is the result of several physiological adaptations that increase the body's production of energy. Ah,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the expectations of others. They had a huge (negative) impact on my life, how about yours?
I lived many years feeling that I had failed the expectations of others; and this certainly included my parents. Life was not great feeling like you didn't measure up. Although I accomplished quite a bit,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it never seemed to be enough or in the right areas. I think many can relate. In his Idea Engineer,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], my mentor Dr. Randin Brons writes this week:
"Many of us unconsciously believe that we're unworthy or defective. We adopted this belief very early in our lives when the people we looked up to disapproved of our demands,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], wishes and behaviours. We concluded that we had to learn to be good.

The masks above are just some of the many masks that people wear. In improving self esteem, help your teenage daughter to discover and name the mask that she may be wearing. If you look close enough, you too may even discover that you wear a similar mask or have in the past. The road to self esteem building may be a journey you can take together. Like I said before, the first step is the most difficult because it calls for honesty and removal of the mask.
Keeping the tight rope walk of self esteem in mind,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], how can a teenage girl or teenage daughter keep one step ahead of the other to avoid tumbling to the ground below? Is there anything parents can do to aid in the process of self esteem building? I believe the answer to both of those questions is a resounding YES!
Another mask could be the mask of the "class clown". This mask also does a really good job of sending the message that an individual is always joking around. Joking around and not being serious keeps others from learning what is really going on inside isn't very funny at all,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Laughing at the jokes is a lot better than laughing at the person that hides behind the mask of the class clown. To keep from being perceived as a "joke" the mask wearer tells jokes to keep everyone laughing at those rather than her as a person,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Creating a positive sense of self is as important to the teenage daughter as her reading the "Do not feed the lions" sign at the zoo. Disregarding either can result in losing very necessary parts of herself,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].

Some of the masks could be in the form of anger. Anger is a defense mechanism that could be used to protect against others from seeing what is really going on inside of a person. The anger mask is put on when the individual feels threatened in some way. To those on the other side of the mask, the persona of toughness is seen, when actually on the inside of the anger, fear resides. There is also the fear from the discovery of inadequacies being revealed. Beneath the "anger mask" sits vulnerability and perceived weakness.
How a girl evolves into her adolescent and teenage years with her self esteem intact can be defined as a tight rope walk at times. Self esteem building begins as a child and continues building upon itself one step at a time. If along the tight rope walk of self esteem she finds herself missing her steps,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], substantial falls and injury may occur.
The masks of the "over achiever",[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], "workaholic",[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], "cleanaholic",

These are the people who over commit and over involve themselves in things because the busier they are with their time,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the less time they have to spend with themselves alone. These mask wearers hide behind their busyness to keep others focusing on their hard work and involvement in activities rather than on the deficiencies that lies within themselves. They may be trying to prove to everyone that they are worthy and can actually be someone that others perceive as important or smart. In their
attempts to undo the wrongs of their past, they oftentimes work themselves into a state of an emotional breakdown. It is hard to wear the "everyone can count on me" mask and be all things to all people.

There is also the "Pollyanna mask". These masks keep everyone on the other side in a constant state of desiring to be more like miss perfect as she is always so sweet and kind. Pollyanna never makes mistakes and everything always seems to be going just right with her. In all actuality, she is oftentimes the sickest of all of us. Underneath her mask, she is far from perfect and keeping the persona of being so perfect prevents her from forming real relationships. Hiding behind the fabulous outfits, fancy beads, earrings, and makeup "beauty mask" is a shallow shield against the truth that screams "I want to love myself, but I don't"!

The introduction of Twitter has made it easier than ever to reach other people on the internet for social networking or business list building. Used correctly, twitter is an amazingly good viral list building tool that can catapult your list from zero to thousands of followers in a very short time.
If you are interested in a particular niche,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], simply find some leaders in that niche and follow them on Twitter. You can also look at who else follows these influential people and if you want to network with them, you simply follow them as well. First off, why did you get married anyway? Did you view it as something you just do because your momma or daddy did it? Did you dream about it when you were little and just wanted to do it because it seemed like fun? Did you do it because you were forced into it?
